What To Expect From An Enquiry Call

Deborah Bulcock speaking to a client via video conference

You’re here because you’re thinking of booking an enquiry call – or have already taken the plunge and have just scheduled one.

Here’s a short guide on what to expect and how best to prepare.

Enquiry Call: What It Is

In summary, this call is our 30-minute window to explore if we’re a good fit for working together.

Exploring:

  • A bit about you, your background and current position
  • What you are looking for support with – your goals, objectives, challenges, and obstacles
  • What’s brought you to enquire with me – why you think we’re a good match
  • Your preferences and needs when working with someone 1:1
  • How I could support you – what I can offer in terms of service and expertise
  • Budget, fees, and timing
  • And any questions you have for me

And doing it all in the confines of full confidentiality – the more honest our conversation, the better we can assess our fit.

From which we can decide if we’re proceeding to a proposal, if we need to speak again to continue exploring, or if it’s not right for us, for whatever reason.

Enquiry Call: What It Isn’t

It’s time to allay your fears – and mine! An enquiry call with me is not:

  • A pushy sales call designed to force you into signing up
  • Something which obliges you to purchase something from me
  • A pressured environment

Nor is it:

  • A coaching session – we’re exploring options here, not getting into coaching on your specific objectives
  • A cheeky way to free consultancy – you’d be surprised how many people have started an enquiry call with “well actually, I just want to pick your brains!”

Recommended Preparation

It’s amazing what can be achieved in 30-minutes. The effectiveness of our call can be enhanced by a little bit of preparation.

You will have already provided me with some information upon booking the call – thank you. I will have read that before we meet and likely had a look at your LinkedIn profile.

Here are some additional things you can think about, if you’re looking for some prompts.

  • How to best describe your objectives for working together – what you are hoping to achieve, why that’s important to you, what success looks like.
  • What’s getting in the way for you – the challenges and obstacles you are facing and how they affect you.
  • What you would value in a coach/partner – those things that are important for me to know about what works for you and what doesn’t.
  • The relevant aspects of your background and career – it’s likely there’s a rich back-story to where you are now – consider what’s most important for me to know in relation to your objectives and challenges.
  • What’s most important for you to know about me.

And then there a whole load of practical things, which may seem obvious, but I’ll mention them anyway

  • Protect and prioritise the time we have, so we can make the most of 30-mins.
  • Ensure Zoom is working on the kit you have available (if that’s difficult and you’d prefer a different platform, you can always send me an invite for the allotted time).
  • Do your homework on me – about me, my services, my blogs, or my LinkedIn profile for posts and recommendations – collectively you can get a good sense of who I am and what I’m about (all links below).

Of course, I’ll be prepared to take you through all of this, so don’t think it’s all sitting on your shoulders!

Relax and Enjoy

I’m really looking forward to speaking and hope you feel relaxed enough for an honest and enjoyable conversation.

Remember, whatever we discuss is confidential, and there is never any judgement here. Say what needs to be said!
